The following tips will help to make sure hot water doesn't go to waste in your home:

- Make sure your hot water cylinder is free from draughts (fit an insulation wrap to the cylinder if it is a pre-1988 model) and also insulate any hot water pipes.

-Check the temperature of your water - the higher the temperature, the greater the cylinder's heat loss.
The ideal domestic hot water temperature is 60oC. Our Service Centre can help you with more information on the ideal temperature for your hot water needs and how to minimise the possibility of children and the elderly receiving burns.

Bright Ideas and Handy Tips

-Fix all leaky hot water taps and if replacing worn taps consider spray taps as they use less water.

-Check for any overflow from the cylinder vent onto your roof from the low pressure cylinders. This is one of the most common reasons for unusually high power accounts.

-Ensure the size of your hot water cylinder size is appropriate.

-Showers use only about 1/3 of the water of a hot bath. Use the cold water settings on your washing machine as much as possible.

-When building or renovating your house it is a good idea to design with energy efficiency in mind. Our Service Centre staff can provide you will free advice on ways to build-in electricity savings.

-The power supply to your hot water cylinder comes directly from the mains. If you require the thermostat to be adjusted have a qualified service person do the job. Better still; fit a user adjustable thermostat, which allows you to adjust your own hot water thermostat safely to suit your circumstances.
