Our Network

It’s big, it’s continually changing and aside from our staff, it’s our greatest asset - our physical electricity network; the infrastructure that delivers a safe and reliable supply of electricity at the right voltage to all customers.

It’s ever changing as we modify the network every day, replacing components, increasing capacity to meet demand and reconfiguring to improve reliability and reduce inherent losses.

We focus on:
  • Keeping the network free from potential risks of damage from vehicles, machinery, possums, birds, trees and such like
  • Continually considering opportunities for improvement such as reconfiguration, changing voltage, installing additional circuit breakers or re-routing the supply.
  • Exploring whether new improvements in technology have the ability to enhance our network’s operation and our overall performance.

So how big is big?

Our network:
  • Has in excess of 3,300km of lines and cables
  • Covers an area of 11,330km2 over some seriously rugged terrain – some of which can only be reached by boat and foot or helicopter
  • Supplies more than 24,000 customers
