Cyclone Gabrielle

Cyclone Gabrielle is impacting the upper north island and is forecast to make its way down the country, impacting Marlborough later this evening (Monday 13 February). There is the potential for strong winds and heavy rain, especially in the Marlborough Sounds and East Coast down to and including the Clarence area.

Please take extra care over the next few days:

  • Remember to stay well clear of fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment and to treat them as live at all times.

  • If you encounter fallen power lines, broken poles or other issues with the Marlborough Lines electricity distribution network phone us on our 24/7 fault line 03 577 7007.

  • Get prepared by securing any loose outdoor objects such as trampolines and outdoor furniture. Check you have plenty of drinking water, keep a torch handy and unplug any sensitive electronic equipment that may be affected by power surges. Ensure your phones, power banks and other devices are fully charged.

We have crews on standby ready to attend faults as soon it is safe to do so. If you experience an unplanned outage, please sit tight, and stay safe and we will restore power as soon as we can. Depending on factors such as ongoing stormy conditions and access to site there is the possibility some outages could extend for many hours or even days.
