Collection of Personal Information

Marlborough Lines Limited (MLL) may collect personal information (including name, email address, phone number, and postal address, etc) when you use MLL’s website or MLL’s services, or when you contact MLL to request services, or in relation to your MLL network connection. If you choose not to provide those details MLL may not be able to provide access to certain services or information. 

MLL may also obtain your personal information from third parties, including publicly available information, in connection with the services we provide.  MLL may obtain your personal information from electricity retailers about your MLL network connection and the provision of distribution services.

MLL operates CCTV cameras for security purposes at MLL sites. Footage of you may be recorded and reviewed. Calls that are made to MLL’s Faults and Dispatch team, and/or Control Room may also be recorded. 

MLL will ensure that it only collects information necessary for services that it provides to you or in relation to your connection to the MLL network.

Use of Personal Information

MLL may use your information to provide you with services and to communicate with you in relation to your connection to the MLL network. 

Specific purposes include:

  • the proper administration of our business or business activities;

  • to enable third parties to assist with our business or in relation to your connection to the MLL network;

  • addressing complaints;

  • dealing with faults;

  • to bill you and collect any debt owed;

  • to enable the Marlborough Electric Power Trust (MEPT) to make any distribution payment to eligible electricity consumers;

  • to send out MEPT trustee election material;

  • quality control; and/or

  • to enforce any legal rights, or is necessary to protect the rights, property and safety of MLL, including customers.

In addition to the above, MLL may also use your personal information for any such other activity as permitted by the Privacy Act 2020.

Disclosure of Personal Information

MLL won’t use or disclose your personal information except for purposes set out in this Privacy Statement or as allowed by the Privacy Act 2020.

MLL may make personal information available internally and to third parties such as agents, contractors, credit checking or debt collection agencies, and your electricity retailer.  Information will only be made available to third parties for the provision of services relating to your MLL network connection or if authorised by you. MLL may also disclose your personal information where required or permitted by law to disclose such information.

Storage, Retention and Security

Personal information is collected and stored by MLL.  Reasonable steps will be taken to protect personal information held from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Your personal information will only be kept for so long as is required for the purposes for which the information may lawfully be used.

Collection of Other Information on MLL’s Website

MLL may be required by law to disclose site visitor information. This disclosure will only be made if MLL believes in good faith that it is required.

Where visitors enter a competition, promotion or survey via MLL website, it may be necessary to forward information on to a third party for organisational purposes. In all cases, visitors will be given the opportunity of declining to receive future communication from MLL or related suppliers.

How can you make a privacy complaint?

If you have a privacy-related complaint, please contact us using the details listed below. We’ll do our best to resolve your complaint straight away but if it is complex, or involves other parties, we may need to investigate it for you. If you’re not satisfied with our response or the way we've handled your complaint, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
