Kaparu Road to Marfells Beach Road 33kV Line Rebuild

What:       11kV and 33kV line rebuild
Where: Between Kaparu Road and Marfells Beach Road
When: Pole foundation construction November / December 2023. Line construction February 2024.
Why: Replacement of ageing assets

What are we doing?

MLL is planning to rebuild the 11kV and 33kV Lines between Kaparu Road and Marfells Beach Road as part of the asset renewal programme. This project is a continuation of the 33kV rebuild between Seddon and Ward.

How will we do it?

This project will be completed in two stages.

  • Stage 1 is the construction of engineered pole foundations in November/December 2023.

  • Stage 2 is the construction of the new lines and removal of the existing lines in February 2024.

How will this affect you?

The existing 11kV and 33kV lines cross SH 1 in multiple locations. MLL requires the temporary closure (10-minutes approx. per closure) of SH1 during conductor pulling operations.

Traffic impacts

SH1 temporary road closure (10-minutes approx. per closure) while conductor is pulled. Conductor pulling operations are currently scheduled for 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29 February 2024 – however, this is subject to change as the project progresses through project planning and delivery. Traffic delay impact will be advised at Blenheim and Kaikoura.

Property access and parking

None required.

Other impacts
