Major Project Work - Battys Road to Redwoodtown Substation

13/1/2022

What: Installation of new 33kV and 11kV underground cables

Where: Richardson Avenue, Taylor River Reserve, Taylor Pass Road, Hospital Road

When: From mid-January through to the end of July 2022

Why: To improve network security and increase future capacity of the electricity network

What are we doing?
Marlborough Lines is installing a new 33kV circuit from Battys Road south, along Richardson Avenue, through Taylor River reserve and walkway to Taylor Pass Road, then along Hospital Road to our Redwoodtown Substation. We will also be installing a new 11kV cable from the Substation back to Richardson Ave to supply power to the Omaka area, reducing customer numbers and load on our existing Howick Road feeder.

How will we do it?
Marlborough Lines have engaged local contractors CMT Group to undertake all work involved with the cable installation, including site management and reinstatement. Work will be carried out in sections over the next six months by digging in sections of ducting or open trench, installation of cables, jointing and testing, and then reinstating the existing services.

How will this affect you?
We recognize that many members of the community use the Taylor River reserve walkway and reserve. Signage will be installed to indicate where work is occurring, and in some cases, to redirect access to alternative routes.

Work hours are between 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings between 7:00am and 1:00pm. During this time there will be heavy machinery and truck movements, along with some construction noise, vibration and potentially dust. CMT Group will endeavour to minimize this as much as possible.

Please do not attempt to enter the work areas without first contacting the site supervisor or STMS as there may be hazards present at any time.

Traffic impacts
Parts of Hospital Road and Richardson Avenue will be reduced to one lane while work is undertaken, this will be controlled by appropriate traffic management.

Property access and parking
Parking in the shoulder of Hospital Road and along Richardson Avenue will be restricted while work is undertaken.

Other impacts
If your rubbish and recycling pickup is blocked by our works, please put your bins and bags out as normal and they will be moved for collection and returned to your gate.

Where can you get more information?
MLL and CMT Group will provide more information and updates throughout the project via letter drops and website updates.

If you would like to be emailed this information, please email project manager Anna Gifford at anna.gifford@mll.co.nz with Battys Road Project in the subject line.

Thank you to the local community for your patience and understanding while we complete this work.
